YOGA IS NOT ONLY ABOUT FLEXIBILITY, IT RELIEVES PAIN AS WELL!
I see athletes from
different backgrounds everyday. I am always amazed of the similar patterns, postures problems and common pain that comes with fascia dysfunctions .When assessing fascia, the first thing
i look for is pronated or supinated feet.
Companies like New Balance and others
are creating footwear to fix these deviations and make so much money. So instead
of buying shoes, why not go to the heart of the problem?
Today let's
look at Oversupination. Its less
common than overpronation and causes problems in runners and other athletes
such as: Shin splints,Plantar fasciitis,Ankle sprains and Stress fractures of
the tibia, calcaneus and metatarsals. Supinated and Inverted feet are connected
to your breathing. In the functional lines, you must loosen the Deep and
superficial front line.So here are a few poses to fix the problem: Sun
salutation pose, Crescent Moon pose, the Camel and the Bridge pose.

DOES YOUR PAIN COME FROM THE SHOULDER OR THE NECK?
This article is crucial to understand the many problems emanating from forward head
posture.
First let's start by finding if is it the shoulder or the neck? Good Question?
1-Pain from the shoulder
will most likely be felt on the front of the shoulder or the outer part of the
shoulder. You may also occasionally feel a dull pain down your arm. Remember a
shoulder problem will not give numbness in the hand!
2-Pain from the neck will
cause pain near the base of the neck or into the shoulder blade. It also may
refer pain in the shoulder and could be accompanied with pins and needles or
numbness. (Quote Robin Mckenzie) So make sure that your posture is optimal to
prevent future pains and aches.
Always remember that 70% of
proprioception of the neck comes from C3-C4 and any form of atlas Subluxation
will create neuromuscular compensation. So make sure that if you have a tight
levator scapulae and Upper trapezius stretch them first and then Strengthen the Deep
Cervical Flexors.
Try these exercises to Strengthen DCF muscles:
1-Wall leans
2-DCF with Blood Pressure Cuff
3-Prone Cobra,Forward Ball Roll or any of the
Horse Stance Series.

THE QUEST FOR A FLAT STOMACH COULD LIE IN DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING
Did you know that the old mighty quest for flat abs is easier than you think? Here is a tip in the right way. In Anatomy trains, the Deep Frontal Line is one of the keys. Most people tend to breath through the chest pushing organs below the belly button. If you want that nice flat stomach try Diaphragmatic breathing.
Here is what to do:
1.First lie on your back with loose clothing
2.Put one hand on your chest and one on your stomach. As Stephane Andre a Master Trainer would say ...think ''Quicksand'' and let your hand on your stomach be a weight and sink in!
3.Slowly inhale through your nose or through pursed lips (to slow down the intake of breath).
4.As you inhale, push your belly/ stomach out and feel your stomach expand with your hand.
5.Slowly exhale through pursed lips to regulate the release of air while squeezing your belly/ tummy
6.Rest and repeat.
Now its time to bring the organs back up:
1-Lie on your back with your legs at 90 degrees at hip width and feet against a wall.
2-Perform a hip extension pushing against the wall and at the top perform one Diaphragmatic breathing and come back down
3.Rest and repeat.
Now your organs are higher and enjoy a new slimmer you ;)

HOW TO REINVENT A CARDIO SESSION! THINK FARTLEK ...
Are you feeling bored of doing cardio on the same treadmill everyday? Ever heard of Fartlek training? Fartlek is a Swedish term that means ''speed play''. Its a fun way to change how you see cardio and a great way to reduce stress on the same joint due to over utilization of the same piece of cardio equipment.
Go to a park or a remote area with multi levels and Plainfields. Start your cardio session with a fast walk for 5 minutes then switch the pace to a light jog. Maintain the pace for 5 minutes then switch to a comfortable running pace for the next 5 minutes. From this moment on, simply have fun with the speed/pace for the rest of the cardio session. Not only will you get pure enjoyment out of the technique but you might find yourself sweating a lot more than usual. This technique can be used on any piece of cardio equipment or at your nearest park or nature trail sanctuary. ENJOY!

Myotactic stretch reflex:
When a muscle lengthens, the muscle spindle is stretched and its nerve activity increases. This increases alpha motor neuron activity, causing the muscle fibers to contract and thus resist the stretching. A secondary set of neurons also causes the opposing muscle to relax. The reflex functions to maintain the muscle at a constant length.

TRUTH AND MYTHS ABOUT HOW TO GET 6 PACK ABS
*A big question on
peoples minds is what do i have to do to get a six pack? Well that is a
complicated one. Everybody is unique and should be treated as such. The
first step is to fix the posture and find the Lumbar curve. Why? It is the
only way to know if you need more flexions or extensions... Bottom line, Abs are
good but not for everyone!
*If you know what the
Lumbar curve(flexion and extension dominant) and you're correcting your
posture, it's time to check which abs exercises you are going to use. The first
step is to check the axial load on the spine and the difficulty level.
Remember to always go
for the weakest part first to the strongest part last. Meaning, always start
with the lower abs first followed by the obliques and finally the upper abs.
*To comment on having a
good core. Some people don`t know the difference between doing abs and doing
core work. The core is a whole system that includes inner (transverse,
multifidus, pelvic floor & diaphragm) and outer core conditioning unit.So
remember our body moves as a whole in any activity we do. Remember guys
like a famous quote:
If you isolate then you must integrate! Good abs does NOT give you a good core

THE GATORADE AND BCAA'S STUDY...
Im sure everybody knows the benefits of BCAA`s but did you ever heard about a study on athletes drinking their gatorade with 7.5 gr of BCAA`S ? It actually increases alertness and intelligence compare to the same drink with no BCAA`S! So for all that practice an endurance sport and want to increase performance, this supplement and study is an interesting choice. How many use BCAA`s? What brand is the best? I prefer "Modern BCAA'S, there is no artificial flavors and it tastes amazing. Nevertheless, today we have Cytomax, Vitargo and other endurance drinks based on this study. Studies like this one is how we push the limits of the human being.

WHY you "NEED" to TRAIN YOUR ROTATOR CUFF...
Here is why training your rotator cuff is so important: a good example would be the bench press exercise. Sometimes we lack the ability for strength improvement, so here is a little tip of advice for all of you seeking an increase in strength. Stabilizers (Rotator cuff )of the main muscle worked in the bench press exercise ( Pectorals) have a higher count of muscle spindles. Muscle spindles check the speed of contraction and how fast you can generate power from that muscle.
So in a nut shell, if you have weak stablizers the brain will not want to increase neuromuscular response. This is why the weaker and more unstable side always has a hard time following the strong side. So if you think you are going to have a bigger bench by using machines and short changing the your rotator cuff's....guess again! That is why some of the strongest gymnast in the world that never benched can bench 315pds when we struggle to achieve it!

MUSCLE INHIBITION OR UNBALANCED DIAPHRAGM. PART 3
MUSCLE INHIBITION OR UNBALANCED DIAPHRAGM. PART 3
Welcome to part 3 of this article. So to get back on the subject, what is the logical order in recalibrating your client and treating short tonic muscles involved in pain management. This week while assessing a client, an interesting turn of event as i was figuring out a way to resolve back pain problems in a client.
1st Appointment:
I evaluated the client and found that his right hip needed repositioning and left hip showed signs of instability in the stabilizing muscles(mostly biceps femoris) creating stress in his lower back. So the problem looked like a socket problem resulting in more internal rotation on one hip and more external rotation on the other hip.
2cd Appointment:
I decided to check out if any other sensory problems was causing the back pain. At the end of my evaluation, I ended up finding a 5 mm shorter leg on the left leg. I also found that he had a Malocclusion and could barely open his mouth 1". He was clinching hard core at night and during the day. If it was not enough, his left eye was paralysed and had retracted scars that never healed on the STM (superficial front line)and back of the head( superficial back line).
INTERESTING FACT: When i treated the scars with the laser, nothing was felt by the client!
Final appointment & treatment:
1-I simply recalibrated the hip (lower diaphragm) then released the short tonic muscles inhibiting the right side of the rib cage (latissimus Dorsi, intercostal muscles and paravertebral muscles).
Followed by a full diaphragm release
2- Then loosen up his jaw and instill CORRECTOL eye drops and gave him 5mm heel for his left shoe.
Then something interesting occurred. I proceeded to retreat the scars and this time, he felt the laser and release. His lowerback felt amazing. Even his gate cycle was better!
To Sum up PART 3, Sometimes the best way to help a client is treat intrinsically first and extrinsically second. But at the end it depends on the client and the problem in question.... Is there a part 4? Ill let you know as i continue case studies

BEST QUOTES 2015 FROM HAGAKURE :THE BOOK OF THE SAMURAI (PART 3 OF 3)
¤People with intelligence will use it to fashion things both true and false and will try to push through whatever they want with their clever reasoning. This is injury from intelligence. Nothing you do will have effect if you do not use the truth.
¤Men who did well at the time of their deaths were men of real bravery. There are many examples of such. But people who talk in an accomplished fashion everyday yet are agitated at the time of their death can be known not to have true bravery.
¤Dreams are truthful manifestations. When I occasionally have dreams of dying in battle or committing seppuku, if I brace myself with courage, my frame of mind within the dream gradually changes.
¤A samurai should always be prepared for death - whether his own or someone else's.
¤I've grown so old that now, even if there were to be a battle, I wouldn't be able to do anything. Still, I would like to die by galloping into the midst of the enemy and being struck down and killed. It would be a shame to do nothing more then to die in one's bed.
¤One should search throughout his whole life how best to follow the way. and he should study , setting his mind to work without putting things off. Within this is the way.
¤When I have faced the enemy, of course it is like being in the dark. But if at that time i tranquilize my mind, it becomes like a night lit by a pale moon. If I begin my attack from that point, I feel as though I will not be wounded. This is the situation at the moment of truth.
¤You cannot tell whether a person is good or bad by his vicissitudes in life. Good and bad fortune are matters of faith. Good and bad actions are man's way. Retribution of good and evil is not simply as a moral lesson.
¤Not to borrow the strength of another, nor to rely on one's own strength; to cut off past and future thoughts, and not to live with him the everyday mind... Then the great way is right before one's eyes.
¤People who talk on and on about others of little importance probably have some complaint in the back of their mind. But in order to be ambiguous and to hide this they repeat what they are saying over and over. To hear something like this causes doubt to rise in one's breast.

BEST QUOTES 2015 FROM HAGAKURE :THE BOOK OF THE SAMURAI (PART 2)
¤Bad relations between retired and present rulers, father and son, and elders and younger brothers develop from selfish motives. The proof of this is that there are no such bad relations between master and retainer.
¤There is nothing felt quite so deeply as Giri. There are times when someone like a cousin dies and it is not a matter of shedding tears. But we may hear of someone who lived 50 or 100 years years ago, of whom we know nothing and who has no family ties with us whatsoever, can you at from a sense of Giri shed tears.
¤There is nothing so painful as regrets. We would all like to be without it. However, when we are very happy and become elated, or when we habitually jump into something thoughtlessly, later we are distraught, and it is for the most part because we did not think ahead and are now regretful.
Certainly we should try not to become dejected, and when very happy should calm our minds.
¤If in one's heart
He follows the path of sincerity,
Though he does not pray,
Will not the gods protect him?
A man answered him by saying, you seem to like poetry. I will answer you with a poem.
As everything in the world is but a sham,
Death is the only sincerity.
So it is said that becoming as a Dead man in one's daily living is the following of the path of sincerity.
¤When you are listening to the stories of accomplished men and the like, you should listen with deep sincerity, even if its something about which you already know. If in listening to the same thing 10 or 20 times it happens that you come to an unexpected understanding, that moment will be very special. Within tedious talk of old folks are there meritorious deeds.

BEST QUOTES 2015 FROM HAGAKURE :THE BOOK OF THE SAMURAI (PART 1)
¤There was a certain point in the conversation when a retainer of Lord Nabeshima Naohiro said, " there are no men here upon whom the master can truly rely. Although I am constantly useless, I am the only one who would throw away his life for you". It is said that Lord Naohiro got outrageously angry come saying, " among are retainers there is not a one who holds his life in regret! You are talking in arrogance!". And he was at the point of striking in when the man was pulled away by the others who are there.
¤To put forth great effort in correcting the persons bad habits is the way it should be done. One should be like the digger wasp. It is said that even with an adopted child, if you teach him continually so that he will resemble you, he surely will.
¤In assessing the enemy's castle, there is a saying that goes," smoke and mist are like looking at a Spring Mountain. After the rain is like viewing a clear day". There is weakness in perfect clarity.
¤Be truth to the thought of the moment and avoid distractions. Other than continuing to exert yourself, enter into nothing else, but go to the extent of living single thought by single thought.
¤When meeting calamities or difficult situations come it is not enough to simply say that one is not at all flustered. When meeting difficult situations, one should dash bravely and with joy. It is the crossing on a single barrier it is like the saying " the more water, the higher the boat."
